Meditation 101

Do you feel drawn to develop a meditation practice but are concerned that you won’t be able to meditate? Fear not! This class is an introduction to meditation, including the opportunity to explore different meditation styles to see which one works best for you. We’ll look at the interesting history of meditation in the western world and its recent integration into mainstream culture. You’ll learn to use the breath as an entry point into stillness, as well as how to work with thoughts, emotions and distractions during meditation. This class will support you in developing a regular meditation practice at home. There will be plenty of time for practice, questions, and discussion.

Format: Typically, the format of this class is four 2-hour sessions. However, the class can also be modified for a retreat setting.

Forgiveness

In order to be whole, it is necessary to come to terms with the wounds of life in a way that leaves us openhearted and able to affirm and embrace life’s inherent goodness. This class explores forgiveness as a process instead of a single event. We’ll look closely at the different stages of this process and how each stage of forgiveness holds the potential for greater healing. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their own experiences of wounding or being wounded as they explore forgiveness. We’ll also look at models of reconciliation that have occurred among larger groups of people. Class participation and questions are a lively component of this class.

Format: Typically 3 hour-long classes or a retreat.
